Soggy Crystal Coast Marathon

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

When I woke up this morning at 6 am it was thundering and lightning. It seemed that were would be no Crystal Coast Half Marathon or 5K. I was slightly disappointed too, since I was even prepared to run in the rain. But I knew the run would be cancelled if necessary due to lightning. So I hit the snooze button a few times and by the time 7 am rolled around the thunder had ceased. My spirits rose and it looked like we would get to run today.

Spring Has Sprung

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

The Crystal Coast was blessed with some excellent weather today! When I awoke this morning in Emerald Isle to let my dog out I noticed it seemed a little warm. So I walked outside and was greeted by an absolutely beautiful morning. The air was actually warm on my skin for the first time in a long time. I wore shorts yesterday, but it was still a little on the cool side to really enjoy it. Today was another story though. Before heading to Morehead City for work I threw on some shorts. And when we went outside at ten o’clock for our break I wasn’t the least bit uncomfortable.

Thunderstorms Heading to the Crystal Coast

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

This past weekend Mother Nature was kind enough to bestow the Crystal Coast area with some incredibly nice weather. Both Saturday and Sunday, though windy, were very nice days to be outdoors and enjoying the weather. I even managed to get out and do some Emerald Isle Fishing both days. The winds made things a little chilly, but it was obvious spring is rapidly approaching.

Crystal Coast Sunrise

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

This morning I went to the beach in Emerald Isle to try and catch the sunrise. I was shocked to find the winds were almost non-existent. The skies were mostly clear too. Today promises to be a gorgeous winter day along the Crystal Coast.

Crystal Coast Weather

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Today was rather mild along the Crystal Coast. The weather was quite kind to us. Today at lunch I walked down to the water in Morehead City. It was a little chilly due to the wind, but in the sun it was rather comfortable. I saw a boat that has been overtaken by the water.

Crystal Coast Weather

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

This week the Crystal Coast saw fairly mild weather while we were in between two cold fronts. However this evening we saw serious temperature drops. The weather forecasters are predicting high temperatures tomorrow of only 40 degrees and that will be pushing it. The good news is that there is supposed to be lots of sunshine.

These cold temperatures are expected to stick around until Saturday when we are expecting and I am hoping for a warming trend. Early next week the Crystal Coast can expect temperatures in the 60 degree range.

Arctic Air Lashes the Crystal Coast

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Usually when I let my dog out in the morning he runs around and does his thing for anywhere from 10-15 minutes. However, this morning when he went out the bitter cold Emerald Isle air must have blasted him in the face as hard as it did me. He was done with his business and ready to get back to the warmth of the house in less than one minute. I think the temperature while I am writing this post is about 37 degrees. That’s pretty cold for the Crystal Coast, even in January. We never did get the coating of snow they hyped up so well on the news. But the North Northwest winds must be blowing at least 40 mph today.

Crystal Coast Weather - Winter Storm on the Way

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

There is a large winter storm on its way to eastern North Carolina. Rain moves in today and will probably change to snow late today into tonight. Accumulation is expected to be several inches inland, but significantly less on the beaches. The temperatures will drop sharply tonight and into Sunday. Sunday morning look for temperatures around 25 degrees. And on Monday temperatures will be in the mid-teens.
Along the Crystal Coast we could see a coating of around an inch. Highs of only 38-42 degrees and these will plummet this afternoon. Winds will be out of the North at 6-13 mph. So today is kind of a washout with the cold rain and chance for snow.

Clear and Crisp Along the Crystal Coast Today

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

It was rather crisp this morning when I awoke in Emerald Isle.. The sun was shining all the way to Morehead City on my way to work. But when we took our first smoke break at 10am it remained quite chilly. After living in our area for several years now, I have became spoiled and any time the temperatures dip below 55 degrees, it may as well be freezing in my opinion. The cold air does seem to have a positive effect on Emerald Isle fishing though. A buddy and I caught over 60 puppy drum on Sunday. It was fun but a little chilly.

It may be cold, but thank goodness it is dry, I couldn’t handle both of them. Wednesday and Thursday’s temperatures should reach the upper 40s. Rain is possible for Thursday.

Quick Drop in Temps for Crystal Coast

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

And its going to get colder for the Crystal Coast weather outlook. Sunday skies will remain cloudy and bring a chance of light rain. Winds out of the North at 5-10 mph. Temperatures for Sunday’s high are expected to only reach 48-52. This is quite a change from what we were getting last week.

While yesterday was rather mild for the season, the temperatures seemed to drop abruptly today. And it’s now getting chilly again.

Rains Soak Crystal Coast

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Rainy weather has moved into the Crystal Coast. Ths rain is due to a front that pushed through our area, and is expected to stall just off the coast. Look for continuing showers over the weekend. Temperatures are also expected to take a dive, but not too bad for January. Things start looking nicer toward the beginning of hte week. However the cooler air isn’t going to be in any hurry to leave the Crystal Coast.

Crystal Coast Weather - Temps Still Above Normal

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Yep January 9th today and I walked out of the house in Emerald Isle this morning wearing jeans and a T-shirt. I continued to wear said T-shirt all day and never once did I get a chill. I’ll take this weather in January any day. This kind of weather makes winter on the Crystal Coast a lot more bearable.  But I heard some changes are in store.

Gorgeous Weather on the Crystal Coast

Wow it’s Cold in Emerald Isle!

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

I have only lived in Emerald Isle for about five years now. And though I can remember it being this cold here in the past, it sure has been a while. The lows tonight are expected to dip down to 17-21, yeah that’s degrees fahrenheit folks. I went to some friends house for dinner on Coast Guard Rd. in Emerald Isle this evening, and when i went to leave I was even tempted to let my car warm up first. This is not typical weather for the Crystal Coast.

The winds are even blowing at gale force (35 mph) in Emerald Isle as I write this post. So when’s it going to warm up? Well the good news is that temperatures will rise steadily after today. This weekend should bring highs in the 60’s this weekend. PHEW! I was thinking of abandoning my quarters here in Emerald Isle until the summer.

Generally, in my humble opinion the Crystal Coast is blessed with rather mild winter conditions. The short bursts of old man winter just serve as a reminder to me how bad winter can be if you get away from the Crystal Coast.

Cold Air Invades the Crystal Coast!

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

After a very pleasant New Years Eve, some much colder air is moving into the Crystal Coast. Walking the dog on the beach in Emerald Isle won’t be as much fun as it was New Years Eve. Wednesday a strong cold front will move in and may even bring flurries since temperatures will be in the 20s by Thursday. The winds will be blowing out of the Northwest at 15-30 mph. These will be the some of the coldest temperatures in the Crystal Coast area since last February.
