Bogue Inlet Pier Fishing Report

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Yesterday after dinner my dad and I decided to ride down to Emerald Isle’s Bogue Inlet Pier and see what the fishing action was like. Well due to the excellent weather and the fact it was Saturday,  there was a LOT of folks on the pier trying their luck.

Emerald Isle Fishing 4-10-2008

Friday, April 11th, 2008

The weather was absolutely perfect yesterday along the Crystal Coast. Plus when I checked the tide I was right at 3 hours before low tide. Areas around Emerald Isle have been holding redfish all winter long. Fishing for them is fantastic fun. Even the smaller size fish put up a bullish fight. Personally I’m glad I can now fish in shorts and flip flops. All winter we’ve been fishing with winter coats and gloves. Not anymore though!

 Redfish caught in Emerald Isle

This morning I looked outside and noticed it was looking like another fine spring day was headed for the Crystal Coast. I then checked to see what the tide was like. To my delight it would be falling for the next two hours. I thought to myself, “Man, I need to get out and do some fishing today.” So I grabbed my rod and headed to K&V in Emerald Isle to grab some bait.

Fishing Report from Emerald Isle NC

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Yesterday I was talking to my friend Scott who was at the sandbags on the point in Emerald Isle. He and another fellow were fishing down there and it didn’t sound like they were catching much. After I got off the phone with him I went to the Emerald Grill and grabbed an order of hot wings. I thought maybe I could catch a drum while eating my lunch so I stopped in at K&V to get some finger mullet.

Fishing in Emerald Isle Feb. 3rd

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Today was absolutely gorgeous along the Crystal Coast. My friend Steve and I decided to once again test our luck pursuing the often elusive redfish. We have been pretty successful down at the point in Emerald Isle the last few weeks as you can see from the previous fishing reports. The Weather Channel had forecasted highs of around 70 degrees today, and there was almost no wind. A big difference compared to last weekend. So we planned to take full advantage of it.

Emerald Isle fishing

It may be cold but Emerald Isle fishing is still on.

Emerald Isle fishing

This morning in Emerald Isle was yet another chilly one. Nonetheless my friend Steve and I decided to test our luck this afternoon after the tide started to fall. We headed out to the point to throw our lines in for a little while. A couple weeks ago we caught over sixty-five fish in the same spot we were headed to today.

Emerald Isle Fishing Remains Hot

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

I woke up a little late this morning, about 10:30am to a frigid Emerald Isle. Not to mention it was looking like more rain was on the way. Obviously the last thing on my mind was going fishing. But I saw I had missed my fishing buddy’s phone call earlier due to my late slumber. So I returned the call to Steve Rice, the Island Gardener of Emerald Isle. He still had a full pot of coffee and invited me over for a cup.
Well we got to talking fishing and decided we could head to “The Point” in Emerald Isle and at least give it a shot for a half hour or so. So we drank another cup of coffee and watched the skies cloud up pretty good. Then the rain started falling. A disappointing feeling came over me, like I knew we would be missing out on something if we didn’t get to go fishing. The rains just started dumping right then as well. We turned on the Weather Channel and waited for the local on the 8’s. After watching the Emerald Isle area radar a new hope was instilled in both of us; it looked like the rains would give way at least for an hour. (more…)

Fishing Report for Crystal Coast

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

This morning on my way to Morehead City for work I saw Dr. Bogus’ Jeep parked by the bridge in Cape Carteret across from the school. I wanted to stop and get the scoop, however there’s about a six inch curb and my little Dodge Stratus wouldn’t be getting over it without breaking something I’m sure.  So I stopped in the Seashore Lighting parking lot to park and ran down to holler at Dr. Bogus.

Crystal Coast Fishing Report 1/8

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Sorry y’all, I don’t have much for you yet again. I wish someone would email me some current fishing reports.

All I can say is there must be some trout or redfish across from the school on 24 in Cape Carteret. I’ve seen Dr. Bogus’ jeep parked out there a few times in the morning. I just wonder, is he catching anything over there?

Fishing Report Saturday

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Well I finally had an opportunity to take advantage of some excellent fishing. My Dad who lives in Cape Carteret offered me the chance to take advantage of the excellent weather headed into the Carteret County area on Saturday for some Gulf Stream fishing. Of course I took the bait. So we planned our trip leaving the Cedar Point wildlife ramp for near dawn. I was so excited the night before I could barely sleep. It was freezing cold when I woke up and let the dog out in Emerald Isle at about 5:15 a.m. on Saturday morning. After letting my dog out I headed to Cedar Point to pick up Jim my dad’s friend and our photographer for the day. We got to the ramp and observed that other than the bitter cold, conditions were likely to be perfect. So we loaded into the boat and headed to Bogue Inlet just before sunrise.

There was no wind at all; this made me even more excited as many winter days the winds can  make for a pretty bumpy ride out to the warmer waters of the Gulf Stream. (more…)

Stripers or Reds? Take Your Pick

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Well I haven’t been able to do much fishing lately, with work in Morehead City and this new blog thing. So I personally got nothing for ya folks. Hopefully this will change as I am headed to the gulf stream this weekend, wish me lots of luck.

There is not many decent fishing reports for the Crystal Coast area that rank in Google, somehow i stumbled upon Capt. Jeff Cronk’s blog, which was very informative.

Morehead City Charters Stay put in Gale

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

I braved the stiff winds today during lunch to go for a stroll along the Morehead City waterfront. Most every charter boat was in it’s respective slip. Today would have been one bumpy, cold, and maybe wet ride from Beaufort Inlet to reach the gulf stream. So as far as fishing reports go today was pretty lame. Friday the winds are supposed to lay down a bit. Hopefully Friday I will be able to get the scoop from the Morehead City charter captains.

Fishing Report from NC Fisheries for Crystal Coast

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Ocean: The sportfishing charter boats around the Crystal Coast area usually do well through the winter since they can reach the warm waters of the gulf stream year round. These waters make king mackerel, wahoo, and yellowfin tuna within range of Bogue and Beaufort inlets. Bottom fishing remains exciting during the winter months. The waters off Pamlico, Craven, Carteret, & Onslow Counties are very productive for the bluefin tuna fishery. Its not uncommon for boats to land multiple fish. Striped bass have been making appearances in these waters as well the last few years. Cape Lookout shoals and nearby waters will hold these fish near shore through the winter.

Inshore: Areas of the White Oak River will be hit and miss for excellent speckled trout fishing. Also there have been a lot of trucks parked at the bridge across from the school in Cape Carteret lately. I wonder what are they catching, reds or specks?
