Things to do in Atlantic Beach

There are plenty of fun things to do while visiting Atlantic Beach. Whether the sun is shining, the weather gorgeous, or whether it starts to rain you out there is something to keep your family entertained.

1. Go to the beach. Atlantic Beach has a nicely maintained public beach access. Chances are you’re at the Crystal Coast for our beautiful beaches, so you might as well get out there and enjoy them.

2. Visit Fort Macon. This civil war fort overlooks Beaufort inlet and is full of very interesting artifacts and other items of great historical value. The park offers guided tours. There are also areas to picnic, sunbathe, and fish.

3. Go see a movie. Sure, you can see a movie at home. But when its raining at the beach, a movie can save the kids from an afternoon of boredom, and save you from an afternoon of grumpy kids. There’s a nice theater located in the Atlantic Station shopping center.

4. Go out for a bite to eat. Don’t cook while you’re on vacation. Go out to one of the many excellent Atlantic Beach Restaurants and let someone else cater to you.

5. Rent a surf board and charge the waves. The waves along the Crystal Coast are generally rather insignificant. This doesn’t mean we don’t get good surf, because we do, it’s just hit or miss.

6. Go kayaking. Check out one of the local shops that rent kayaks as well as offer guided tours. Kayaking is one of the most intimate ways to get close to nature in our coastal environment.

7. Rent a bicycle and go for a bike ride. The marvelous neighborhoods in Atlantic Beach provide for scenic backdrop for a bike ride. Not to mention on summer holiday weekends this may be the best way to navigate around the congested streets.

8. Charter a boat and go fishing. The Crystal Coast is a prime location for fishing. Whether you’d like to pursue the trophy big game species offshore, or you’d like to go after flounder and redfish that abound in our inshore waters, one of the Atlantic Beach charter fishing captains would be happy to make it a trip to remember.

9. Make the drive to the North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores. This is a popular educational and entertaining attraction in our area.

10. Watch the sunset with a loved one. Our sunsets can be absolutely breathtaking in both the summer and winter months.
